sunny south america: a colombia trip
It’s nearly springtime (#thanksgroundhog!), and with the warmer weather comes (as usual) a ton of travelling. How exciting!
First off, Colombia! As I mentioned last post, my fiance Taylor’s company Embark Aviation landed a new client based there, so he’s been enjoying beautiful sunny weather, and will stay there until the end of April.
I’m jealous! But glad to be able to visit for a few days last week.
And, in just a few more weeks, we’ll be taking a spring break vacation to London and Paris. That’s right! Three countries in the span of one month.
For now, I hope you enjoy these 35mm shots of South America (I took almost 2 rolls!):
For the first half of the trip, I stayed in Medellin, which is p mountainous.
Right off the bat, I was so impressed + amazed by how green it was! There were of course many palm trees, but also soooooo many monstera leaves!
The view outside of the Airbnb we stayed at also showed just how colourful Colombia is in general: pink buildings galore! And incredible architecture, as always.
The highlight of my wandering around the city while Taylor was at work was getting to ride in the Medellin metro cable cars! The metro was super clean, quiet, and affordable- and the cable cars are just part of the system! Catching a cab was also very easy and inexpensive.
One of the cable car lines takes you through the forest, which made for some truly grand cityscapes and vistas.
On Friday, I hung our around the airport next to Taylor’s office for a bit, and then in the evening we flew to Cartagena. It’s only about a 40 minute flight, so super short! Our Airbnb there was hosted by Sophie, who gave us so many amazing tips for restaurants and sightseeing!
Cartagena definitely had a more touristy vibe, and it was much warmer. Also, I got a ton of mosquito bites (as per usual), something that didn’t happen in Medellin.
Still, I loved exploring the historic part of the city. We had great food, saw the ocean, so many cabs, and even more flowers! We also got to see (and feed!) monkeys + iguanas + sloths!
Last but not least, on my final full day in Colombia, Taylor + I had a relaxing beach day! We took a ten minute boat ride to TIerra Bomba, and had a fantastic time at Fenix Beach.
The day pass included a welcome drink, reserved beach mats/hut, lunch, and the round trip there + back. (Speaking of the food: they definitely eat a ton of meat in Colombia! But I made do with fish + potatoes.)
At the end of the day, Taylor and I flew back to Medellin, though we got back super late due to a flight delay. And the next morning, I flew back home, and also ended up getting delayed, which resulted in an overnight layover.
But I’m finally back home now, with my two cats + two rats. And I’m in LOVE with these film photos! Can’t wait to take even more in England + France :)
